My War Stories
  
  1942 Enlisted on his 18th birthday.
  1943 Tunisia, Africa is where Bernerd was first shipped to. He completed 38 missions in Africa, Northern Italy, Albania, Yugoslavia and Romania.
  1943 Spent two years on a base in Battaglia, Italy and his bomb group did about 300 sorties from there.
  5/7/1945 Joined B-29 group in Pueblo, Colorado.
  7/16/1945 Bernerd was a flying a mission on the B-29 when the first atomic bomb was exploded in history over the New Mexico dessert called Trinity. Flew 6 missions on the B-29.
  1946 After the war he worked at Atomic Energy for 35 years separating Uranium under gaseous diffusion.
