My War Stories
1945 James was drafted into the Army and was stationed at a training command. James maintained B-17s and B-24s for flight training. Did training at Fort Thomas, Kentucky then to Miami Beach, Florida for 1 month, then to Amarillo, Texas for 3 months. He moved around the US to airports where training was conducted. At the end of the war James was sent to California to put B-29’s to sleep, the first thing he did was remove the clock because if he did not someone would steal it.
1951 After World War II James was in the Ohio National Guard and when the Korean War broke out he was deployed to the Philippines. James started out working on propeller driven aircraft but soon received jets. The planes did reconnaissance over Korea based in the Philippines.
