My War Stories

1943 In July 1943 two weeks after losing one of his brothers on a ship that was sank, his unit was going to go to Angio for invasion but held him back to be an infantry replacement instructor at Wheeler and Camp Gordon. The course was 17 weeks long and taught 7 courses, was hard to see the men go because they were going overseas and possible give their life. Andrew expressed a lot of compassion for his troops. Once war over there were no more troops to train so went to Nagasaki six weeks after the atomic bomb was dropped. It was awesome and freighting and Andrew told his troops that we would not see another bomb dropped in war and he was correct.
