My War Stories
1/1951 Enlisted in Naval Reserve January 25, 1951 in Lima, Ohio while a senior in High School.
2/1952 Discharged from Reserve Feburary 1952 in order to enlist in Regular Navy.
4/15/1952 Inducted into the Navy in Columbus, Ohio. Sent to San Diego, California for 13 weeks of boot camp. After boot camp he was sent to destroyer base in San Diego and assign to clerical work.
8/27/1952 8/27/1952 sent aboard the destroyer USS Mansfield as Treasure Island, San Fransico in operations division as a Radarman (Operations Specialist).
8/28/1952 Ship departed for Korea. USS Mansfield operated off east coast of Korea, noth of 38th parallel with task group 95 in DesRon 9.
8/1954 Shipped to home port Long Beach, California. He was sent to radar school at Treasure Island from August to October 1954 graduating 9th in class of 40.
4/5/1956 He was discharged April 5, 1956 at Long Beach Naval Station, Long Beach, California.
