Went to New Orleans, Louisiana to pick up his ship which was the LCT 722 on top of a LST 560. His ship was in three pieces 120 feet long by 60 feet wide. Left New Orleans for Cuba then went through the Panama Canal to Manus Islands in the Admiralty Islands which took 53 days. His crew had to put their ship together once they arrived. |

Charles was a gunners mate in charge of two 20 mm guns and four 50 caliber machine guns. Credited with shooting down one Japanese plane and sinking two suicide boats. |
