My War Stories
1/1/1969 Al was in a Junior college in Butler,Penna,when he was about to be drafted into the military.He enlisted into the Army,so he could select his specialty.He took his basic training at Fort.Gordon,Georgia and advanced training at Fort Lee,,Virginia.He was sent to Cantho,Vietnam .Shortly after arriving at Cantho- during Tet New Years offensive,,Al recalls being woken up and told that their base has been over run by the Viet Cong and that hand to hand combat was happening in the barracks next door.This was his introduction to the War.Al spent the rest of the year,working in Aviation-Ammo Supply,flying as an aerial spotter on various aircraft and when he returned to the states,he became a Military Policeman at Fort Monroe,Virginia.
