Driver for convoy for 6x6. In basic training would drive the trucks up a tiny road through thick wilderness and mountains, rainy and cold. |

Never went over seas, was injured in training. Was scheduled to go overseas and was injured right before it being deployed. Artillery was over 2 miles away and was supposed to shoot over my grandfather’s squad but instead landing right on the group. Killing a lot of the soldiers. My grandfather had his ear drums ruptured and could not hear for many months. It was very hard being in the hospital. It was tough because his unit was being shipped out for the battle of bulge and he could not go. Many brave soldiers who fought in the battle of the bulge did not come back. |

During basic had to crawl with pack while they were shooting at you. If one raised their head 3 inches one would be hit by bullets and killed. Many soldier's where actually killed by their own trainers because they did not follow directions. War was merciless and so was training. |
